[Day 8][Reflection]: So Dumb That It Makes Me Smile

Tonight was nuts so I didn’t get to finish my fitness post. So Today’s check in will be a simple acknowledgement that sometimes life happens and shit just doesn’t get done 🙂

Let’s begin.

These are the promises I kept to myself:

  1. Exercise at home
  2. Write a Fitness Post
  3. Program for at least an hour a night.
  4. Apply for at least One Job.

The Promises I will keep tomorrow are:

  1. Exercise at home every morning to have more energy in the morning
  2. Write a Fitness Post
  3. Program for at least an hour a night.
  4. Apply for at least One Job.

This “Promise System” of tracking progress is so dumb that it makes me smile. (I’m a lame optimist). It’s a weird/funny confidence boost to be able to say I kept three promises to myself today.

What if that was the secret to confidence all along? Making small promises to yourself and keeping them.

This piece of lyric  is from a song (today’s addition to my morning block playlist) that was very meaningful to me today. It’s called “8 Full Hours of Sleep” by Against Me!. Listening to this song as an adult who happened to have gotten eight full hours of sleep makes me wonder if it had always been punk lullaby about the benefits of sleep. Here are the lyrics so that you guys can decide for yourself.

“8 Full Hours of Sleep”

Against Me!

When you sleep
No one is homeless
When you sleep
You can’t feel the hunger
When you sleep
No one is lonely in a dream
Without classes
Without nations…
When you sleep
She’s standing there with open arms
And one night could last forever
And if you asked her
She’d never let go
And you’d stay forever…

When you sleep
And the sun’s always rising
In the sky somewhere
And if young hearts should explode
From all the lies they’ve been told…

When you sleep
Let the new night bring you peace
And the promise of tomorrow
Where we can wake to a new beginning
Tomorrow I’ll all but have lost their faces;
My friends and family
Memories of all we had
And the times we should have lived
And tomorrow America just might fall apart
Tomorrow, tell me
Where will you wake up?
Beyond title, beyond lease, careers and laws
Something more than borders on a map…

When you sleep
And the sun’s always rising in the sky somewhere
And if young hearts should explode
From all the lies they’ve been told…
To live through one night like this
I would trade it for the silence…
