Today was a marathon and a triage scenario combined. It took most of the day to finish the first chapter. Not the worst writing I’ve done but also not the most eloquent. It’s lean and functional.
It was also magical. I met a fellow writer. I smoked cigarettes, paced, and wrote line after line all day.
The beauty of storytelling is the feeling of being transported and the feeling of arrival. The first chapter is an airport terminal, a destination and a beginning.
Today I arrived on a planet not unlike another third planet from the sun. A survivor of humanity’s 31st apocalypse. There on an island shaped like a whale I watched a boy named Jonah meet his sister Norah for the first time. Mortar fire ensued.
Not a bad day, but I need to be more careful about abandoning my other promises.
Today was good. Happy writing everyone.
